before I knew
I harbored faith
before I knew
I had no doubt
before I knew
I walked the line
before I knew
I stayed the course
before I knew
I trusted love
before I knew
I feared a god
do we know
what is true
can we count
on current facts
is truth within
our hurried grasp
or must we wait
for time to pass
the search it seems
on science rests
for unlike faith
it must evolve
high above
the desert floor
he soars on waves
of rising air
his view of sand
and sun-baked rock
the only trees
near hidden springs
and soon he dives
to make a kill
and takes his meal
to cooler heights
it's there he'll spend
the clear, cold night
beneath a dome
of distant suns
