Time Travel

a given day

may seem to crawl

but over years

how fast the time

in youth we want

the years to pass

but now we know

each day a gift

so travel back

is what we do

to decades past

when we were young

our memories vague

before we start

we hope in vain

to make them clear

we want to know

just what we said

what left undone

to cause the pain

the journey made

we're still unsure

but some day soon

we'll try again

 

Never Just Friends

we know the truth

we share the pain

let's not pretend

let's just forgive

no room for doubt

no hope for change

no role for reason

no turning back

never to be

never again

never that simple

never just friends

 

Wildfire

a natural force
to clear debris
and sow the seed
of future growth

and yet a curse
for those who live
within its scenic
high risk realm

so others fight
to stop its spread
and risk their lives
to save the homes

one wonders if
we'll ever leave
the western woods
of fire born

Old Friends

we think of them
as time goes by
our lives entwined
our feelings shared

and now we know
how much they meant
though long ago
our paths diverged

we plan to call
but doubt we should
and then we learn
they're gone for good
